ComAp collaborated with Static Power Philippines Incorporated, the official distributor and integrator of ComAp products in the Philippines, to deliver a hybrid power solution for the National Power Corporation’s Rapu-Rapu Diesel Power Plant. As part of the Philippine Government’s initiative to expand renewable energy across the country, the project introduced a 500 kW photovoltaic (PV) array and a 160 kW power conversion system (PCS), alongside Rapu-Rapu Island’s existing diesel gen-set infrastructure.
To integrate the new renewable power sources alongside the site’s diesel gen-sets, Static Power needed to ensure seamless communication between all devices while maintaining a stable and coordinated system—essential for reliable operation under varying load conditions. This called for a robust control solution that could deliver system stability and effective performance, while also maximising opportunities to reduce emissions and operational costs.
To address these challenges, Static Power turned to ComAp for an advanced hybrid control solution that could integrate and manage multiple power sources and optimise system performance. The new control solution features ComAp’s InteliSys NTC Hybrid for advanced microgrid applications as the system’s master controller, the InteliGen NTC BaseBox for gen-set control, and an InteliVision 5 display for on-site user interface and monitoring. Voltage regulation is managed through ComAp’s IG-AVRi and IG-AVRi Trans modules, while the InteliGateway facilitates seamless connection of multiple Modbus devices to ComAp’s master controller.
The system control logic was configured to enable real-time decision-making based on load demand. This allows the system to automatically adjust the output of each power source, ensuring consistent and stable operation. Thanks to the new control solution, the site’s power sources now operate in harmony, and Static Power has successfully achieved its goal of creating an integrated and fully functional hybrid microgrid.
As a result, the island of Rapu-Rapu now benefits from a reliable hybrid energy solution with increased reliance on clean solar power. The project has reduced the plant’s fuel consumption and emissions, while also lowering its operational costs.
